Nature Nuggets

Time zooms by. Slow it down. Savor it. You and your little one will explore nature along with our Naturalist one “nugget” at a time. In this field experience, we’ll smell the flowers, study their colors and textures, and watch a bird hunt its prey. This is a series of classes designed for adults to bond with their child (ages 4 to 7 years old). Sign up for one or all of them. Each session has a different content or different location. Captain Forster’s Hammock Preserve Walk

This stunning county preserve on the barrier island is 110-acres from the ocean to the Indian River Lagoon. It's one of the last remaining coastal hammocks in this area - a real natural treasure. Our knowledgeable Nature Guide describes the natural features, flora and fauna with a smattering of history, too.
It's an easy hike, more like a slow stroll.

Lagoon Nights Sleep-Over

North Sebastian Conservation Area Hike

Captain Forster’s Hammock Preserve Walk

Green Living Workshop

DYEING EASTER EGGS NATURALLY Green Living Workshop - This year, instead of squeezing drops out of plastic bottles, look to Mother Nature for colorful, and nontoxic, inspiration. ELC Naturalist, Rosemary Badger, is leading a Green Living Workshop where participants will be hands-on dyeing eggs. Your kitchen is full of natural dyes. Red cabbage, onion skins, and coffee can all be used to transform plain white eggs into colorful Easter gems. Kids will especially love discovering all the different colors they can create. Plus you’ll end up with recipes to try at home. Mrs. Badger has been a Naturalist at the ELC since 1999. Boat Excursion to Pelican Island (morning)

This pontoon boat tour opens up the secrets of the Indian River Lagoon and its wildlife. The cruise takes you by Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge (the nation's first national wildlife refuge) and mangrove islands where migrating birds, manatees, and dolphins gather. Our naturalist guide provides just the right touch of education through commentary and a few props. Our comfortable boat seats a total of 16 passengers.

Join our Canoe Guides as they lead an excursion on the Indian River Lagoon. Explore "off the beaten path" canoe trails. Water birds and mangrove tree crabs abound.
